HMD, the brains behind a new generation of repairable Nokia smartphones, has made TIME’s Best Inventions of 2023 list with the Nokia G22, which comes with QuickFix repairability that consumers can carry out themselves at home.¹

HMD’s CMO, Lars Silberbauer, said: “At a time when innovation is thriving, it means a lot to us to appear on this celebrated annual list. We want to make phone repairs affordable, simpler and beautifully designed for consumers.”

Escape the hassle of expensive, time-consuming repairs. The Nokia G22 empowers you to take charge of your smartphone’s destiny thanks to a partnership with iFixit that allows you to order QuickFix kits online starting from £19 should this durable device ever even need a repair.

The Nokia G22 back cover is made from 100% recycled plastic, and you can replace damaged displays and old batteries. The smartphone also comes with a three-day battery life² and is capable of 800 full charging cycles³ meaning it will stay in good shape for longer.

Following the resounding success of the Nokia G22, HMD brings DIY at home smartphone repairability to the 5G segment with the launch of the Nokia G42 5G at £199.99 in the UK in vibrant pink and purple. And in the US the blue Nokia G310 5G which starts from just $186 and is exclusively available at T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile. You can replace cracked screens, bent charging ports and old batteries, all by yourself.

The Best Invention 2023 selection follows hot off the heels of the company attaining a very impressive Platinum EcoVadis 2023 Sustainability Rating for the second year running. The company is in the top 1% of businesses and 98 percentile of companies audited for their commitment to sustainable practices in the manufacturing of communications equipment.

It’s compiled by nominations from TIME’s editors and correspondents around the world and through an online application process, paying special attention to growing fields — such as AI, green energy, and sustainability. We then evaluate each contender on a number of key factors, including originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact.
