If your car breaks down, you don’t drive it straight to the junkyard – you try to get it fixed. So why should you have to buy a brand-new phone if the screen cracks, or if the battery runs dry?
We’re making phones that you can fix yourself. You don’t need a degree in engineering – just some tools, spare parts, and free-to-access guides from GSMnet.¹

Reduce
“R” number 2: Reduce
As people, we want more. More from life, more from others, more from the things we buy. Sometimes, “more” is fine. Other times, “less” is better.
Packaging for globally available smartphones is made from certified FSC-Mix materials. To help cut e-waste, we stopped including wall chargers in the sales box of many of our phones, since most homes those already. By the end of 2024, this move avoided the production of 3,200 tonnes of CO2 emissions.²

We build recycled content into many of our smartphones and their packaging. Details can be found: https://www.hmd.com/en_int/environmental-profiles. Thanks to the recovery programmes we run, some parts can be recycled at end of life. What's old can become new.
